Boston Herald Slams Kerry
The Boston Kerry has slammed Kerry for his decision to decline the nomination for a few weeks, just to escape campaign spending limits.
This is beyond tacky, beyond crass and ultimately beyond pointless. That Sen. John Kerry and his advisers would even think about tinkering with the nomination process that the Democratic National Convention was designed to be - all in the name of the Almighty Campaign Buck - is so hideously cynical we can't imagine what they are thinking.
I've often asked myself what John Kerry is thinking, and with Kerry you can never rule anything out. Yet these words don't come from BlogsForBush, but the Boston Herald, of all places.
A candidate who has already come under heavy fire for parsing his words on nearly every issue to come down the pike will stand before 6,000 convention delegates and give a speech which does not conclude with ``I accept your nomination?'' Oh, that's just brilliant!
John Kerry has been called many, many things, like traitor, war-criminal, rich-boy, aristocrat, and "French", but I yet to hear anyone call him brilliant.
Add to that the fact that hundreds of thousands of area commuters are already major-league grumpy about being asked to put their lives and their jobs on hold for a week so this Kerry nomination hoe-down can occupy the city of Boston, and you have a real fine start to the general election season.
Sorry about your luck Boston, but the whole thing has become a pointless charade. Just thank goodness the little people don't matter much to the Kerry campaign.
Kerry's advisers insist that for Kerry to dip into that $75 million pool of federal general election money five to six weeks before President Bush [related, bio] begins to tap his $75 million puts the Democratic nominee at a disadvantage.
And of course it's all about Kerry, his needs, and defeating Bush. Screw the party and the voters, eh?
Well, there are worse things. One possible consequence is robbing a national political convention which has already been turned into a virtual non-event with little drama and no spice into an actual non-event, safely ignored by TV and millions of viewers. The Federal Election Commission says spending on such a non-event may not even be legal.
Now wouldn't that be funny. What if the FEC rules that that party can't pay for their own non-nomination? I wonder who'd get stuck with the tab?
Kerry ought to pop this trial balloon - and fast.
Well maybe he can use the pin on one of those medals he keeps throwing away. It seems that Boston editors, and this article came from the Boston Herald editorial staff, are none to thrilled with Kerry's hijinks. Neither was the rest of the nation when he accused our soldiers of rape, pillage, and murder, when it turns out he was lying.

To bloviate a bit about these... but first, another linkfest. Matt weighs in on Abu Ghraib, again, since the media won't turn down any of the volume. He also takes a shot at the Air Force. Not like that's hard... [Read More]

Gee! Did the training wheels fall off Kerry's campaign train?

If this were from the Boston Globe I would be really suprised. I am under the impression (no real personal experience) that the Herald tends to be a tad to the right of the Globe.

I recently called kerry a hologram: he presents a totally picture depending on the light and the angle.

Just be glad you didn't read the Boston Phoenix, which I threw away after reading about how no "real" protest will happen at either of the political conventions, and how "successful" the WTO protests in Seattle 5 years ago were.
I suppose if an organized riot is your idea of success...
It makes me sick. I keep hoping that the economic shutdown of Boston will fuel a backlash against the Dems, but I know that the lemming behavior will not be shaken so easily.

Uncle Bill:
You're correct. The Globe and Herald in Boston map more or less to the roles filled by the Times and Post in N.Y.
