Shit: Research Into the Relative Frequency of Certain Invective on the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiller.

Overview:
The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler is famous for foul and creative language, yet researchers haven't done a serious analysis, nor written up a single paper on the subject. To help fill in our understanding of modern culture, I've undertaken an early morning effort to plug the gaps. This basic overview of the language on the Rott barely scraches the surface, so more work is definitely needed.

I used the search engine Google to get counts of Rott web pages that contain certain selected epithets, curses, swear words, and liberals. I then undertook to study what the relative frequencies of the appearances in such words could tell us about scum suckers, islamofascists, and Michael Moore.

Research:
George Carlin is famous for saying the 7 words the FCC wouldn't let people say on the air. The famous words were these, with marks through the one's that have since slipped into acceptability.

Keep in mind that these aren't word counts, these are thread counts. The Rott is currently (at the time of this publication) up to 3601 archived threads. However, all threads prior to thread 3056 were purged in what was called The Great Oops! of Thread 3055, a disaster which not surprisingly was the subject of thread 3058. That leaves 543 archived threads with comments, plus 3055 threads with none.

So in a given thread it would seem to be a near statistical certainty of encountering the words fuck and shit, assuming these words aren't actually accounted for in the 3055 posts with missing comments, which does remain a possibility. To see whether this is the case, we first proposed that if the word shit were to be distributedly evenly through Emperor Darth Misa I's postings, while never appearing in the commets, it would mean 27.4% of the postings would contain shit. That would leave 839 shits in the first 3055 posts, and 149 occurances of shit in the subsequent 543 posts. However, this assumption also doesn't leave any shit for the threads, so this type of simplistic thread count analysis still doesn't shed light on shit. Perhaps a refined Google would eliminate this difficulty.

Moving on, we find further complications. A few of the earliest threads do still have comments, such as the prophetic one left on thread #2.

This most prophetic of statements on the second Rott thread doesn't seem that prophetic, considering that it's only 3 months old, posted far after The Great Oops! of Thread 3055, which occurred on Sept 29, 2003. Such an affair begs for an explaination Noting that several of the earliest (single-digit) threads contain comments from the early morning of Oct 24, we may finally have explained where those comments from the morning of Oct 24 maddeningly went. Either that or the second thread on the Rott took 13 months to draw a comment.

Given that the terms puke and vomit appear with roughly equal frequency as fart and turd, though not with shit, which has other primary usages, it would seem there's little bias toward particular body excretions amongst those who post at the Rott. One exception seems to spit, which appears out of proportion with other similar terms.

In investigating the reasons for this, we discovered that the popularizer of the term, Rachael Lucas, was linked by the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler back in thread #99, on Sept 10, 2002.

That this produced a preference for a new and innovative term, asshat, as opposed to the more standard terms, implies a web community that cross fertilizes heavily in linguistic innovations. Indeed, asshat is only slightly less frequent than the all too common asshole.

Summary:
The invective on the Rott is innovative, and merits further study. The commonly held assumptions about the invective are proving false, and far more interesting than the general community had anticipated.

Conclusion:
Darth Misha I needs to provide more occurances of the word clue, and also engage in a lengthy discussion about bazookas, the only word I searched that yielded only a single hit on the Rott. Bazooka seems to be falling into disuse, and this trend could possible be reversed as easily as the word asshat was popularized. I suggest he more frequently wield the term Clue-bazooka of Doom™.
