The Battle of Baghdad

This one's cheesy, but it goes out to the 3rd ID under Maj Gen. Buford Blount. It's a spoof of the 1959 hit "The Battle of New Orleans". The background on the song is here, along with the melody. Apparently it had hundreds of verses.

In March oh three we took a little trip,
along Iraqi highways and the mighty Tigris drip.
We took a little bakin' but we felt a little glad,
and we fought the bloody Ba'athists in the heart of Ol' Baghad

We fired our guns and the Ba'athists kept it comin',
There wasn't 'bout as many as there was awhile ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the big Euphrates with their clutch of looted dough.

Oh we looked down the river and we seen the Ba'athists come.
There must have been a hundred of 'em bleatin' like a drum.
They stepped so high and they made their Nikes ring.
We stood inside our Nomex vests and didn't say a thing.

Old Bufford said we could take 'em by the pile,
if we took 'em down from distance with accurate aimed fire.
We held our fire till we seen their faces well,
then we opened up our long black guns and gave 'em a little...Well....we...

....fired our guns and the Ba'athists kept a comin',
There wasn't 'bout as many as there was awhile ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the big Euphrates with their clutch of looted dough.

Yeah, they ran through the fires and they ran through the camels
And they ran through the rushes where jihadis couldn't go.
They ran so fast that the rounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the big Euphrates with their clutch of looted dough.

We fired our cannons till the statue tumbled down,
then we grabbed an agitator and we fired another round.
We drove on up to Tikrit and parked in Saddam's yard
And when we found his sewer hole he didn't fight real hard.
We filled his head with dental probes and showered his behind,
and when we dusted powder on, the lice just lost their mind.

We fired our guns and the Ba'athists kept a comin',
There wasn't 'bout as many as there was awhile ago.

Thanks MedicMom!

It's hard to come up with a good war song these days. I'll keep at it.
