What is it with Foam

The European Space Agency had to further delay the launch of their comet probe because they found a piece of loose foam on the launchpad.

What is it about foam that so vexes rocket scientists? I suppose that finding an adhesive that's good down to the temperature of liquid hydrogen is one problem, but can't we at least buy some bulk dental floss and wrap the outside of the LH tanks like a college prank? Well, ok, maybe nothing so cheesy. We could use Stren Spectra fishing line instead.
