Dad served in nam as well.I do see similarities in that Republicans are letting the media commit treason and also Congress,in ealier wars,FDR ,Wilson,Lincoln,and Jackson wouldn't have tolerated such stupidity as this administration has done.This has to be one of the most stupidest things that the Administration has done by letting this gone on for four years and then you address it,its still weak.I won't to see some hanging or a firing squad for the media and any other treasonous assholes,that will get their attention.

What stupidity has this administration done along the lines of parking the fighters wingtip to wingtip on airfields so the Japanese could strafe them efficiently at Pearl Harbor? What stupidity has this administration done such as the invasion of Iwo Jima where the japanese fighters were already grounded for lack of fuel. Yes, I am well aware of the number of B-29s that landed there, but nearly all landed for training, and if the island was not captured, they would have done their training somewhere else.

From first to last World War II was a disaster, beginning with when the Japanese showed up an hour late to break relations, fooled by the complexity of Daylight Savings. They were supposed to get there half hour before the bombing, and instead got there half hour after the bombing.

Congress cut the manufacture of 105 and 155 artillery ammunition because there were excess stocks in North Africa. Odd thing: the new production came out just in time for the new variable time fuses, which got there just in time for the German Ardennes Offensive, and accidently increased the effectiveness of artillery shoots by 10X.

The temporary success of the Sherman in North Africa delayed new designs for a year, when the Tigers and Panthers were coming out. The US doctrine of employing lightly armored tank destroyers (M3 half tracks with 75mm guns, M10s with 3 inch guns and M36s with 90mm guns, all with minimal armor)against enemy tanks while US tanks were to avoid enemy tanks, even if the enemy counterattacked with tanks, was terribly flawed. Even when Sermans were equiped with high velocity 76mm guns, Tank were not supposed to be issued the TunstenCarbide rounds which made them more effective. Those rounds were reserved for the tank destroyers.

The Aberdeen Proving Grounds wanted to put the M26 through the usual evaluation course when what the Army needed was its 90mm cannon on a heavily armored tank with an effective torsion bar suspension. When the US finally made it, they outproduced the 3 year production of Tigers in 6 months. During the delay, Shermans got the nickname "Ronson" after the cigarette lighter whose jingle was "One strike and it lights".

Anyone care to mention the tremendous losses from the US heavy bombers flying in daylight against German factories? Result: a 20 percent reduction in ball bearing production for two weeks, and 30% loss rates for the bombers, with 9 men in each.

Care to consider the misuse of black soldiers and airmen? The FDR army was segregated. The FDR Marines didn't allow blacks at all. The FDR Navy only permitted blacks as hewers of wood and carriers of water. Only after pressure from losses and lengthy "experiments" were black units allowed to serve as combat units.

No, FDR, Lincoln, Wilson, ectera had their own screw ups. The current operations are amazingly efficient by comparison. War is a terrible thing at the best of times, but not the worst of things. Cowardice, the fear to do the right things, because of momentary pain or risk is a shameful thing. May our nation never (again) be so shamed.

Japan did attack USA BTW.

Most people feel 50-100 death/month in Iraq is too much. BTW Iraq was no threat to us.

?? I thought that the Vietnam War started before 1966. I'd like to see you graph the comparison of casualties from the beginning of the Vietnam with casualties from the beginning of the Iraq war.

Yeah what a waste Vietnam was 60K Americans dead and 2 million or so Indochinese. And for what ? We should have realized then that Vietnam would become a strategic partner against its traditional enemy, China. Republicans want to blame Kennedy or Johnson for getting us into that debacle but they always forget what the right wing's position was at that time
